@marine,
There's a lot of merit to the Turtle method. Clearly, had I just "held" NFLX & TSLA when I first started buying @ $58.oo, I'd be "sitting pretty" right now.
Unfortunately, my trading psyche has reversed on me in the last 10 years.
Many years ago, I'd hold & hold & hold a stock, and was afraid to sell.
NOW, I buy & sell (take profits ASAP), and stay in cash most of the time, because I'm afraid to hold.

For example, I know a guy was "holding" AAPL last year.
This time last year when AAPL was @ $700, he thought he was a genius.
Every time I'd see him, I'd ask him if he'd sold. He said "no".
By the time AAPL dropped to $500, I stopped asking.
He was not looking real happy this year.
I've made mistakes like that a million times, and frankly it's been difficult to forgive myself .. every time.
So, I just don't "hold". I trade or stay in cash.

Karen - just playing around with some ideas, but this one is for you:

Fetcher[
set{opentohigh, high - open}
set{opentoclose, close - open}
set{hightolow, high - low}
set{opentohighrange, opentohigh / hightolow}
set{opentocloserange, opentoclose / hightolow}

set{av_oth_range, cma(opentohighrange,20)}
set{av_otc_range, cma(opentocloserange, 20)}

add column opentohighrange {todays open to high range}
add column av_otc_range {average open to high range}
add column opentocloserange

draw opentohighrange on plot av_oth_range

symlist(aapl,tsla)
]

Buy when today's open to high range (opentohighrange) crosses above the 20 day average (av_oth_range) and sell when it crosses back below. No trade lasts more than a few days, but it trades fairly frequently.

I have only eyeballed this, but on TSLA and AAPL it seems to work pretty consistently over the past year or so.
