I trade earnings sometimes. Does anybody know what sites would be helpful in getting an early read / early line on how the earnings call is most likely going to go? I use Barchart but most of it is historical. any ideas would be helpful.

Trading earnings is risky as I lost money invested before earning were released- It was a bio stock and it dropped before I could out. Now looking back it wasn't very smart on my part- Now if its post earnings and they were good then its a good bet to further go up or short if there bad.
Just saying!

Thank you both. Mac, I dont get in before they are released. I just want more odds on probability. SQ went bananas and I was able to scalp some this week.

Trading earnings/pre announcement is the ultimate crap shoot.You're better off and much safer waiting for the stock to open,then trade in the direction of the trend.The only ones who really profit are the insiders who are sitting on large positions,which they have been accumulating weeks before,ready to dump on the open.If you're not on the inside,you're on the outside....

Roger PT
GPRO is a prime example of swing traders playing pre earnings and then when earnings don't meet there is a gap down sell off.

correct. even when the fundamentals are sound and analysts give it a 5 star (like EXEL, which comes out Monday after the close), you dont always have a link between earnings and price action. I do think EXEL is going to spike some Monday night but will wait until, well, Monday night !!!

@PT
I had something happen to me a couple of weeks ago. My wife who retired from Arkansas Blue Cross about 4 years ago moved here 401-k money over to Morgan Stanley. Its been their about 6 months . Morgan Stanley is doing fair IMHO- In one part of her portfolio they have about 8 stocks . They buy it but have no criteria for getting out from what I've have seen. My wife's broker is a little bit of a Bull shitter IMHO- I see stocks in her portfolio and wonder why MS held on to them when weakness started showing up in them.
Well to make a long story short - I had a little Prime America fund that I rolled over to them. He has it in AMZN, IBM and some low volume ETF GVIP. They are doing good but I won't let them sit and hold them if they start to show signs of weakness. I was talking to him and I've had already found a web link that shows what the big boys are buying in a stock . He told me about this site also.
Just type in a stock, then look at ownership .
