TLT might to be something to look into = Just a idea.

I would look at VIX contango levels - if the VIX futures go into backwardation you could short XIV or go long VXX. These conditions, though, are short-lived in most cases since 2009, so just be careful.

I would focus on shorting ETFs, not stocks.

Karen, as Mac points out TLT is a good option. I would go with a mix of cash n TLT...although imo you could keep long positions as long as SPX remains above 2440. If SPX drops below 2440, could be a rough period of time.

MAC--what are you using when you go long on gold? I noticed differences in performance between JNUG, NUGT and GLD today. Gold is inches away from being a buy recc, it seems like.
