@Mactheriverrat Good thought but I was not using the symbol list in this case. But it happens no matter how I get to the charts. Many symbols work and many don't.

@dashover I use a Gif screen recorder. This one is Gifox on MacOS.

The GME glitch got me thinking recently. I've been trading the same old boring method for years now and am happy with it. But GME made me thinking about the excitement of trading and quick turn options and I realize that I am sure there are a bunch of computers being set up to capitalize on the glitch before it can be solved.

I find StockFetcher a good way to prototype these sorts of things so here I am. This is my list of the most highly shorted stocks. My expectation is someone or some group will drive margin calls (short squeeze) on one or more of these and the price will spike rapidly.

So by monitoring volume spikes and Bollinger widths, I will try and capitalize on those. This is the sort of trade the more the merrier because the profits come from the short covers. These will be short term trades for sure.

Thoughts? Flaws?

Besides GME there is Build-A-Bear Workshop the last week of January is an interesting moment for this idea:

I am having a lot of issues where charts just show no data. It seems to be a general problem and not just isolated to a given ticker symbol.

Here is an example:

I think @nibor100 using converge with a moving average seems to me to be spot on with the original ask.

But my read of what you really want is where the volatility of a stock is getting low and nearing some level of support. In that case, I would probably approach the problem this way:

Fetcher[
Bollinger width at 6 month low
and close converging with 6 month low

Nice answers.

I am not sure this is the "most elegant" way.

The first thing that pops in my mind is to use the MACD Histogram since what you asked is nearly the definition of it. I would wrap it in absolute value to make the comparison easier. I also tend to look for relative relationships so converging and mean something. So look for a new low or something like that.

Fetcher[
ABS(MACD Histogram(10, 46)) has reached a new 1 month low
AND ABS(MACD Histogram(46, 230)) has reached a new 1 month low

/** Clean up results a little **/
AND market is not OTCBB
AND close > 10
AND volume(30) > 100000

/** Make it easier to see what is going on **/
AND draw ABS(MACD Histogram(46, 230))
AND draw ABS(MACD Histogram(10, 46))

AND draw MA(10)
AND draw MA(46)
AND draw MA(230)
]

The data from screening by PE Ratio is so wrong it is not usable. I find the same is true for Dividend data too. Here is an example of in accurate data:

Fetcher[
MA(10) crossed above MA(50) within the last 2 days
and PE Ratio below 1
and PE Ratio is above 0

and add column PE Ratio

]

Example results right now when I wrote this post:

CLNT SF: 0.83 Actual: 55.00
AMBC SF: 0.65 Actual: 13.08

General Discussion · how to add this phrase to my filter ?

You can do something like this:

Fetcher[
set{target,open * 1.10}

close >= target

close >= target
count(close above target,30) above 2

close above 10.00
volume above 1000000
add column target
]

or for two days in a row

Fetcher[
set{target,open * 1.10}

close >= target

close >= target
close 1 day ago >= target 1 day ago

close above 10.00
volume above 1000000
add column target
]

In this filter "target" = "Y" from your description
