four,

These are no better than the borrowers and the part I copied & pasted below tells the whole story. This is subprime lending to low income people with bad credit. There is no effective recourse against a defaulting borrower and that leaves the collateral. If the vehicle is wrecked, stolen, the engine or transmission goes bad etc you have a bad loan. I tried some of this with small car lots about 20 years ago and got some great tax deductions.

We serve a large market. Dealers use CPS auto finance programs to support vehicle sales to credit challenged customers. CPS customers may have a prior bankruptcy, repossession, low credit score, collection accounts or charge-offs.

Can Mahkoh's composite be backtested using Stockfetcher and if so, how do you code the exit rule?

I have been trying to follow the posts on this system and I am getting confused.

How could you have 100+ trades since December 2012. There haven't been that many days. Are you saying 100+ signals and if you took all of them, the result would have been 100+ winning trades?

@four

Optionvue has free, live webinars and some archived ones explaing how they get their trading signals. It doesn't look very complicated to duplicate for someone with good excel skills and the results have been great with very few trades. They also offer some interesting option strategies to capture short term profits. The downside is that the annual cost, even if you already have Optionvue, is high.

@mahkoh

The link you posted looked a lot like the Optionvue system. Do you know anything about the poster and the system he sells?

I got it to work for about 2 days. During that time I thought the software was great. An alternative to PTF is http://www.pairslog.com. For now its free and their autotrader portfolios (which are misnamed because right now there is no way to autotrade them) appear to offer decent returns. I suspect Bartune or Kevin could find some tweaks that would substantially improve their results.

IMO, pairtrading seems like a lot of work and I agree with Kevin's observation that there are better ways to make money trading. If you look at the graphs on pairslog, they suggest that pairtrading may be consistent and not suffer from severe drawdowns. The graphs don't go back to 2008 so how it did then is anyone's guess.

That was great. I read recently that even China is replacing workers with robots.

A few thoughts to consider:

Weren't industries like you want to exclude included in the excellent test results?

Aren't a lot of "troubled" companies included in the test results? Isn't the underlying concept of this strategy that a lot of oversold companies have fallen beyond a reasonable point?

I'm not trying to say you are right or wrong. I'm suggesting that you might need to review the list of trades to verify your idea. If you do and it improves performance, then you have improved a statistical edge. Otherwise, you are taking a mechanical system and turnng it into a discretionary system. I hope your results are better than mine, but everytime I go discretionary, I increase my lifetime tax deductions.

Its been a while since I read the book but my recollection from the book and articles was that most if not all ETF's do. I think there was special emphasis on country ETF's because it takes a lot to disrupt their direction once it has started.

You may want to try the free stuff on Trading Markets and I believe I 1st heard about this system from a Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities magazine article. I found the title of it in a quick Google search. It is worth reading.
