Four,
Am relatively new to trading and you seem to be a wealth of knowledge when it comes to trading and coming up with a variety of filters. I also came across this below code from your read only post earlier and was wondering if you can walk me through the logic and how to trade the set up from below. Anything you can do to help will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Tugga

/* Extreme Finder 1.0 */
sp900
low > 1 and volume > 123123
and close < lower Bollinger band(40,0.4)
and draw ppo(1,20) < -.10
and ppo(1,5) > ppo(1,5) 1 day ago
draw ppo(1,5) 1 day ago < -.05
draw ppo(1,5) line at -.05
draw ppo(1,20) line at -.10
add column annual dividend yield

@Shillihs
I am new to the world of trading and been reading quite a bit on this forum, which has been a truly phenomenal resource/support. I came across this filter and wanted to ask you a few questions you can help me with:

1. Is this filter looking at stocks that are ready to bounce? I can blindly follow the results of the filter and just buy a few stocks but it will be great if I can understand the logic of this filter before jumping in. Id really appreciate if you can explain the codes there line by line the pennies from heaven first filter i.e.

2. Also, timing with regards to buying say I run the filter EOD today and it shows one stock. I will buy this tomorrow before close?

3. Timing with regards to holding/selling When do you typically sell this stock? I saw in the forum in this post about the gains posted by John if we were to hold this for 1 day 2 day 3 day and so on with a 150% avg gain if you were to hold for 48 days. What strategy do you follow to sell based on this filter?

Anything you can do to help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tugga

Thanks for posting this filter Wilson. Question when it comes to how you trade them?

The filter did retrieve a number of stocks with low volume. Do you use a minimum volume to trade some of these stocks from this list?

Do you pick the top 3 stocks from this list or what strategies do you use to trade them?
Also, any pointers in terms of the number of days you hold these?

Anything you can do to help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tugga

Hi Cegis,
I've been going through your posts and tried to backtest this old filter around RSI<0.05 and there is a mistake I am making. It will be great if you can help fix this. All I want to do is run the filter 5 days ago and essentially buy the stock at the next day's close i.e. at day 4 and see what happens if I sell it at the next day close, the following day close (2 day hold), 3 day hold and 4 day hold and so on. Below is an attempt. Can you please help correct some of the syntax? Thanks a ton in advance for your help.

set{gain1, close 3 days ago - close 4 days ago}
set{gain2, close 2 days ago - close 4 days ago}
set{gain3, close 1 day ago - close 4 days ago}
set{gain4, close - close 4 days ago}
set{cl, close 4 days ago}

set{pct1,gain1*100 / cl}
set{pct2,gain2*100 / cl}
set{pct3,gain3*100 / cl}
set{pct4,gain4*100 / cl}

close 5 days ago is below 10
RSI(2) 5 days ago is below .05
volume 5 days ago has been increasing for the last 2 days
draw RSI(2)
draw Bollinger Band(20)
market is not ETF
add column gain1
add column pct1
add column gain2
add column pct2
add column gain3
add column pct3
add column gain4
add column pct4

Thanks Mactheriverrat. So" I've added Williams%r(10) cross above -40.00" as soon as this condition is met, you enter the trade? What strategy do you use for holding? The reason why I asked about the RSI filter there was when I saw a post here - http://www.stockfetcher.com/forums/Filter-Exchange/RSI-Filter-my-best-one/98917

Thanks a ton again for your help.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

@Mactheriverrat, I was hoping if you can help answer a question around one of your RSI filters that you posted long long ago. I am fairly new to trading and am totally loving the support from stockfetcher and its members. I would like your approach to the below filter that you posted:

Show stocks where the rsi(14) is above RSI(14) 1 day ago
Price is above 1 and price is below 99

Do you buy and hold this for 3 days? What strategy do you specifically use to trade this filter?

Anything you can do to help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tugga

Also, what is the code Snappyfrog is referring to here? It will be great if you can post that here.

Thanks,

Thank you compound gains. I also use questrade but I was wondering if we can use relative volume as a substitute to figure out Canadian stocks. Anyways, if I try and find it successful will post them here. Thank you so much for all your help.

Hello again, Compound gains,
I want to identify stocks in the tsx to try this strategy and stockfetcher does not list stocks from TSX. I'd like to carry this approach over to whatever filter my trading broker (questrade) has and see if I can find stocks from there. It will be great if you can help and correct my understanding of the code line by line so I can find an equivalent filtering criteria with my trading software provider to identify canadian stocks.

close above 3 - self explanatory
count(volume above 250000, 21) equals 21 - we are counting the stocks that had volume over 250K in the last 21 days
volume dropped more than 25% over the last 1 day - self explanatory
set{chk, high * 1.005} - entry price is the high price today times 1.005?
draw price line at chk on plot price - self explanatory
add column historical volatility(100) {hv100}
and the rest of the code is fine.
Anything you can do to help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Tugga
