mktmole, what you've provided looks like a brilliant approach, I don't think I would have ever thought of that approach, so thanks for sharing it with me.

When I click on the scan to run it today, it retrieves almost 8200 hits, which is an overwhelming amount of info to digest. It appears that some of the counts are zero for all CP* values, so I'm wondering whether this needs an extra line of code that would request just stocks with values that passed the bullish test. Otherwise, I'm not quite sure how to integrate it into the scan that I want to merge it with.

thanks for any additional suggestions.

I'm writing a scan and at the end want to add a screen that checks whether the last day or several days candlestick patterns are bullish. Is there a wild card that can be inserted into a single line that says "and pattern is bullish *"? Or would I have to write separate scans, each with a different last line, e.g. "and pattern is bullish harami", "and pattern is bullish engulfing", etc.

Any help is appreciated.

thanks

In reviewing many stock charts over the past week or so, I've noticed that hundreds of stocks, including many that I'm interested in (mainly smaller cap stocks) had unusually high volume on Friday, June 26, although the overall volume on the SP500 wasn't particularly high that day. In many cases, the volume was higher than average by a factor of 8 to 10. Yet for most stocks, price didn't change that much.

The following scan can be run to show what I'm referring to.

Shows stocks where the volume gained more than 600 percent over the average volume(30)
and close is between 1 and 250
and average volume(30) is above 30000
and offset 9 days

Note: the 9 day offset works for today (July 10). If you run this on a different day, you'll need to adjust the offset period to hit June 26. Running it for other days shows that typically only a few dozens of stocks have that much higher volume.

I'm wondering whether anyone has any ideas as to why there was so much volume on these stocks on June 26 or what the implications might be for so much high volume. I know it was near the end of the quarter but other ends of the quarter haven't produced that much higher volume.
