Here is a filter that shows uptrending stocks. Make sure and sort by ATR% and I try to stick to the top ten by this sort, although some below tenth place do well. I also try to limit the picks to the stocks that have shown an increase in volume over the last few weeks.

Fetcher[Set{hi52w, high 52 week high}
Set{lo52w, low 52 week low}
Set{hi/lo-Ratio, hi52w / lo52w}
SET{X, ATR(20) / CLOSE}
SET{ATR%,X * 100}

Show stocks whose price is near the 7 year high and AvgVol(20) is above 100000 and volume is above 50000 and close is between 3 and 250 AND hi/lo-Ratio IS GREATER THAN 1.85 and market is not otcbb and add column AvgVol(20) and add column high 7 year high and add column ma(30) and add column ATR% and add column hi/lo-Ratio and add column industry description AND DRAW DARVAS BOX and draw high 7 year high and draw ma(30) and do not draw hi/lo-ratio and draw rsi(2) and add column rsi(2) and draw ema(13) and draw ema(26) and draw adx and chart is candlestick

If you make any improvements, please post them.

Great addition

Is there any way to draw a trendline at a certain angle from a low or high point?
For example a 45 degree angle (or any user defined angle) from a low point and then to be able to extend the right side of the chart to see where the angle will be in the future would be an excellent addition.

Thanks for the great work,

Avery,

Here is an example using this filter:

Fetcher[Set{hi52w, high 52 week high}
Set{lo52w, low 52 week low}
Set{hi/lo-Ratio, hi52w / lo52w}
SET{X, ATR(20) / CLOSE}
SET{ATR%,X * 100}

Show stocks whose price is near the 7 year high and AvgVol(20) is above 100000 and volume is above 50000 and close is between 3 and 250 AND hi/lo-Ratio IS GREATER THAN 1.85 and market is not otcbb and add column AvgVol(20) and add column high 7 year high and add column ma(30) and add column ATR(20) and add column ATR% and add column hi/lo-Ratio and add column industry description AND DRAW DARVAS BOX and draw high 7 year high and draw ma(30) and do not draw hi/lo-ratio and draw rsi(2) and add column rsi(2) and draw ema(13) and draw ema(26) and draw parabolic sar and draw adx and chart is candlestic

Look at these stocks to see what I'm talking about.

ERS, NTRI, TOL

ERS on May 16, 2005, hit the all time high for the 1st time in months, this is the only time it should have been picked up by the filter, but as it makes new highs since May 16, it continues to be on the filter. I want stocks that has made a new high for the first time in x number of months. When they keep showing up after that date, it creates to many stocks to sort through.

NTRI should have showed up on June 28, 2005 only, but it has been on the list almost everyday since then.

TOL is a good example, it has two dates it should have been listed by the filter. Nov. 4, 2004 and May 25, 2005, but it has also been listed everyday since then.

Basically looking for stocks breaking out of a "basing" pattern for the first time in 6 months.

By the way, thanks for sharing all you ideas with everyone. I'm not a day or swing trader, as you can see I'm trying to ride the long trend, but I have still incorporated some of your ideas.

Thanks,

Trek

Alex,

Sorry I did not see you last post explaining 85% of all time high to Mark.

To answer your Question. After the stocks are picked up by the filter, I watch to see which ones are valid by the price action of the stock and hopefully volume picks up when it breaks the top of the box.

The filter has picked some excellent stocks, but sometimes it picks to many. I sort by ATR% to see which ones are moving the most. Like I said previously, the stocks that have just hit all time high for the first time in a few months seem to perform well. Look at RATE, it made a perfect cup and handle.

Like Mark said this is a base break out, but I haven't figured out how to express it in the filter. Maybe Mark can help with that.

Avery, if your reading your help would be greatly appreciated. I figure it can be done with the Count feature, but I'm not very good with the complex features of SF.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Trek

Mark good to hear from you,

You are right scanning for stocks at 7 yr high is foolish, but it is the best we can do with SF(probably even 3 years is the best we can do). If you notice I also said to cross check with prophet.net to make sure stock is at the all time high. However you were incorrect to assume this filter doesn't pick up new issues. You should have checked out the date offset.

You mentioned two excellent stocks, TZOO was picked up (date offset of 295), BOOM was also picked up (date offset of 175). This filter also picked up a nice little stock called TASR (date offset of 450).

/Make sure to sort by column ATR%/

Check out some of the more recent picks, however. NTRI date offset of 21 and ERS date offset of 45.

Notice on ERS how the volume also picked up, which DARVAS also looked for. You are right this is a simple base breakout, but I can't seem to get it into the filter correctly. Any HELP with this would be appreciated. I've tried the count feature, but can't figure it out.

You misunderstood the last part of Alex's question. It is not 85% above the high, it is 85% OF the all time high. (.85 times the all time high) This just alerts you to the stock just before it hits the all time high.

Lastly, I've read only two of DARVAS' books, "How I made 2 million dollars" and "Wall Street, the Other Las Vegas". I didn't realize there was a 3rd. What is it titled, I would love to read it?

Good Luck and Good Trading,

Trek

Alex,

One follow up to previous method. I've noticed that the stock making new highs for the first time in a few months have performed great. I'm currently trying to use the count feature to show stocks that the current all time high has not been made for at least 60 days. Check out stock symbol rate to see what I mean. Maybe someone better with the count function than I am can give it a shot.

Good Luck,

Trek

Alex,

Here is the filter I created for use with Darvax Boxes. I use a 7 yr High for the all time high, because SF doesn't have entire history of prices. I think SF only goes back 3 years, but I get different picks when I use 3 yr instead of 7 yr, so I've left it on 7 yrs. I always go to prophet.net and click on all years to make sure the picks are at the all time high. In most cases the 7 yr high is the all time high.

SET{ATR%,X * 100}
