I think what is happening is that your filter requires that the high is above ema(20) in each of the last 5 days, not on just 1 of the last 5 days.

Try this:

set{highaboveema20,count(high is above ema(20),5)}
highaboveema20 is above 0.5

General Discussion · Obama Tax Bomb to Blindside U.S. Investors

Paying taxes in itself is not a bad thing. I don't mind paying taxes for defense, roads, bridges, energy, etc. The problem is that we have a government that has not been doing its job over the past two decades, and they do foolish things with our tax money. This year is the culmination. It may destroy us.

China's stimulus package makes sense. Use it to create jobs and build their infrastructure for the future. We gave out checks and told people to go to Wal-Mart. But then, China is a creditor nation, not a debtor nation. Do they own the majority of the U.S. yet? Must be getting close.

Three of the filters that have this problem are:
ST9070 Pullbacks
ST9560 Pullbacks
ST8080 Pullbacks

If I remove the watchlist line, they run the performance check just fine.

I'm having problems running the Performance tab for some of my filters. It just hangs and never completes. I think it has to do with filters that contain an "Apply to watchlist(xxx)" line.

You can still get there. On the My Filters page, pick your filter, then over on the far right, under Options, click on Edit. Then run View Screen, and the old format is there, with the old Date Offset box.

No more "Calculate" button after the market close? Just checking. I found where we can update all filters on the fly.

I don't see any difference in the way we create new filters. Maybe they listened and put it back the way it was already?

But I do like some of the new features. Good job, Stockfetcher!

General Discussion · Position sizing for swing traders?

That's a good way to do position sizing. How do you determine what your stop price is? There's a system of position sizing using Average True Range to set your stop price. Van K Tharp talks about it in his book, "Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom."

Do you have a system that says you want to risk $150 per trade? What I do is determine how much of my total equity I want to risk on each trade. I typically use 2%. The 2% of total equity risk is how much I would lose if I were stopped out (which agrees with how you are looking at it). 2% is fairly agressive. Some other traders use 1 to 1.5% risk per trade.

I usually have between 10 and 20 trades open at any one time.

And as far as trading in lots of 100 shares, that doesn't make much difference any more. I often trade odd lots, and have no problems.

One thing you can do is click on the "Indicators" link in the backtest set-up screens. Then you can pick out some indicators, and after you run your backtest you can see what the winners had, or didn't have, in common for the indicators you picked.

Now can you tell us when we should go for it on 4th down, punt, or kick the field goal? (Just kidding.)

Very elegant filter, TRO. This turns a rather dry filter into something interesting
