Cacher, Chetron, Kevin_in_GA

I finally worked out the bugs in the Value Charts from the book "Dynamic Trading Indicators." I haven't figured out how to make it clickable.

/* Calculate FLOATING AXIS*/
SET{VAR1,HIGH + LOW}
SET{VAR2,SUM(VAR1,5)}
SET{FLOATINGAXIS,VAR2 / 10}
AND ADD COLUMN FLOATINGAXIS

/*Calculate VOLITILITY UNIT*/
SET{DIFF1,HIGH - LOW}
SET{DIFF2,SUM(DIFF1,5)}
SET{VOLITILITYUNIT,DIFF2 / 25}
AND ADD COLUMN VOLITILITYUNIT

/*Calculate VALUE CHART HIGH*/
SET{VALUEHI,HIGH - FLOATINGAXIS}
SET{VALUECHARTHIGH,VALUEHI / VOLITILITYUNIT}

AND DRAW VALUECHARTHIGH
AND DRAW VALUECHARTHIGH LINE AT 4
AND DRAW VALUECHARTHIGH LINE AT 8

/*Calculate VALUE CHART LOW*/
SET{VALUELO,LOW - FLOATINGAXIS}
SET{VALUECHARTLOW,VALUELO / VOLITILITYUNIT}

AND DRAW VALUECHARTLOW
AND DRAW VALUECHARTLOW LINE AT -4
AND DRAW VALUECHARTLOW LINE AT -8

AND ADD COLUMN HIGH
AND ADD COLUMN LOW
AND ADD COLUMN VALUECHARTHIGH
AND ADD COLUMN VALUECHARTLOW

SHOW STOCKS WHERE VALUECHARTLOW IS BELOW -8
SHOW STOCKS WHERE CLOSE IS BETWEEN 1 AND 300
AND AVERAGE VOLUME(30) IS ABOVE 100000

Kevin_in_GA, the buy/sell signals generated are largely in agreement with your Bollinger(16,2.5) entries, although I think Bollinger(16,2) fits better. Let me know how it works for you.

The equations described in "Dynamic Trading Indicators" convert the daily price range into a normal distribution (bell curve)of daily stock prices. Not an easy read, in my opinion. This enables a trader to observe when price reaches 2 or 3 sigma price extremes. I expect to use this to confirm MACD/price divergence.

This wil describe the basics of the book although no figures are included:

I believe you need the book to dig out the details but the esentials are there.

If you want to buy the book:

Chetron and Cacher - Thank you both for your help. I was able to finish programming the indicators.
I had struggled with the "SUM" function withoutsuccess. I have a tough time debugging Fetcher filters. It seems to require a trial and error approach. I expect it will become easier with experience.

Trying to calculate the 5 day median of the high + low.
This doesn't work:

set {range, high + low}
set {range1, high 1 day ago + low 1 day ago}
set {range2, high 2 days ago + low 2 days ago}
set {range3, high 3 days ago + low 3 days ago}
set {range4, high 4 days ago + low 4 days ago}
set {total, range + range1 + range2 + range3 + range4}
set {floatingaxis, total / 10}

I'm trying to implement the equations for the value charts described in the book "Dynamic Trading Indicators."
I've struggled with this problem for quite a while so any help is appreciated.

Filter Exchange · RSI(7) below 20

heyen,
There is beauty in simplicity. I've tested your "RSI(7) below 20" filter and found it to be very effective on its own merits.

May I suggest using the positive crossover of the Slow Stochastic(5,3) as an entry "trigger" and a negative crossover as the exit, with the swing low as the stop loss.

Your basic RSI(7) filter is strong enough to support several entry and exit variations which may improve the results.

Here is how I've applied your filter:
RSI(7) below 20
and price is above 1
and volume is above 100000
date offset 5
and Slow Stochastics(5) Fast %K is below 20

and draw RSI(7) line at 20
and draw RSI(7) line at 80

and draw Slow Stochastic(5) Fast %K line at 20
and draw Slow Stochastic(5) Fast %K line at 80

I made the date offset 5 to see how the stock behaved immediately after the setup. Also, you might also be interested in another RSI approach from The Tradersclub Forum run by Chuck Lebeau.

Haven't seen any posts here referring to Jim Cramer on CNBC. I've picked up some good trades from him the past few months. Most appear to be short term swing trades (10 to 20%). Any opinions?
