Vector Vest does have a survivorship bias. I'm using a real money strategy now that included a stock that got taken out. However, VV does not reflect the new company. Instead if you were to go back and run the search on the date I bought, it picked the next stock down. I have told VV which stock got taken out and by whom, but they never fixed it.

I don't know how common it is for portfolios to run into this problem, but it could definitely skew things big.

That was me.

I didn't hold onto SSL long enough. This was really my first time trying out your VV method. I made money trading both SSL and USEG. I recently sold USEG as it might be turning down. With SSL, I got out before the drop that occurred around late February. However, I ignored it and didn't get in around April 9th when the market turned back upwards. SSL has been on fire since then.

My original buy of SSL was on Jan 18th. You can see I posted about it here on my blog. If one wa to hold thats a 26% gain today. (Notice I bought ONT there too +179%)

All the coal plays have been on fire since the market turn around in April. I think they will continue to do well as I just read an article about the cost of shipping coal will come down by as much as 40% because of all the tankers that the Asian countries are building. Shipping the coal is one of the biggest costs to these companies.

Although MARY is full of $hit most of the time, the call on biotech is good.

Most of my trading life has been trading the index, so QID/QLD applies to me as well. There might be more profit in individual stocks though.

Yeh I'm starting to like the idea as well, but instead focusing on like 5 stocks and just getting to know them inside out.
