I recently read an intersting article in SFO Magazine about the effect of the devaluation of the dollar that blew my mind and thought I would try to paraphrase and pass along the gist of it to those of you whom might be interested...

1. The Weak Dollar Matters

"...While most may have heard or read about this, many don't realize we are fighting the economic conflict of our lifetime...Americans are blinded by the illusion of stock market wealth and purchasing power..."

2. The Illusion of Stock Market Wealth

When the weak dollar's Global Purchasing Power Parity (GPPP) is factored into recent Market activity, things get ugly...

In 2000, Dow top @ 11,700 X 1.24 (Dollar trade-weighted index at the time) = 14,508 GPPP "points"...

In 2007, Dow top @ 14,180 X .78 (Dollar trade-weighted index at the time) = 11,060 GPPP "points"...

Bottom line...a net loss of 3,448 GPPP "points" meaning the Dow has declined by 24% since 2000! When it comes to Real Money, the supposed 2003-2007 "Bull" Market is in reality a continuation of the 2001 Bear Market in disguise!

The NASDAQ, which has a long way to go to see 5000+ again, has declined by 66% in Real Money terms since 2000...

In terms of commodities, compared to 2000, the ailing dollar now buys...

- 35% fewer gallons of milk
- 40% fewer bushels of corn or wheat
- 65% fewer ounces of silver
- 70% fewer barrels of oil
- 80% fewer pounds of copper

and so on...This same formula can be applied to any number of other purchases, such as housing, insurance, education, healthcare, etc. yielding equally sobering results...

Couple this with the housing troubles and $100 dollar oil and things are looking pretty grim. Unfortunately, further easing by the Fed only makes things worse!

On that note, I find it ironic that one of the Fed's supposed priorities is to curtail any potential signs of Inflation. With their steadfast dismantling of the Strong Dollar Policy to appease the Street and give cheap money to "kids in the candy store", Inflation is now the least of our worries, IMO...

Despite the Financial Media "Talking Heads" parroting the worn out line about a weak dollar being good for exports, the fact is we are all about consuming and spending where the rest of the world for the most part is producing and saving. As a result, the purported export effect will have little impact, IMO...

3. What's an individual to do?

+ Start saving more
+ Buy gold, gold futures and/or a gold ETF when prices dip/retrace to opportunistic levels
+ Stop using your home as an ATM

@ jrbikes...hopefully any potential new friendship is worth more than a penny ;) Thanks for the invitation to join in...

FWIW, here's my TA take on your latest Penny Picks...

HMIT: currently hemmed in between the 20sma and the 50sma...it looks like it needs to do more consolidating with the 50sma holding up as support...It'll probably retest .0125 - .015 to flush out the weak hands...

Chart: http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=HMIT&p=D&b=5&g=0&id=p06026085119

GLE: Nice pick...I've been watching this myself after the first pop back in late September...I guess great minds think alike :)

Anywho, similar scenario as HMIT, between the 20sma and the 50sma...it's basing nicely and will possibly retest the .21 - .22 area before working the next leg up to meet the 200sma around .40

Chart: http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=GLE&p=D&b=5&g=0&id=p06026085119

GSML: 50sma currently holding but, look for the 200sma to be retested around .14 - .16 and possibly dipping to .12...

Chart: http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=GSML&p=D&b=5&g=0&id=p06026085119

FKLT: Give that dog a bone ;) This looks to me like a nice steady climber...definitely worth a few pennies, but I'm just gonna watch for now as it looks oversold with a probable retest of the .025 - .03 area coming up...

Chart: http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=fklt&p=D&b=5&g=0&id=p06026085119

Thanks again for sharing...Maybe next time I'll throw a few out there...it'd be interesting to see which one your dog might stand on :)

A Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving to all SF'ers...

@ jrbikes

Thought I'd chime in here as I've been enjoying your "Penny Posts" recently...Admittedly, while they may be a "crap" shoot, IMO, that's half the fun :) In the spirit of "paying it forward", I did a little DD on CCYG...

It goes without saying Biotech can be dicey and Stem Cell research even more so, but I think their recently awarded patent (11/9/07) shows some potential...

Per the Patent announcement:

"Using this now-patented technology, exclusively licensed to CellCyte from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, the company is developing stem cell enabling therapeutic products designed to allow more efficient delivery and significantly increased retention of adult stem cells to diseased and other target organs, such as the heart. Dr. Ronald Berninger, Chief Scientific Officer of CellCyte Genetics explains, “The goal of CellCyte’s stem cell targeting/retention therapies is to enhance the number of cells available for regeneration of damaged tissue, and thereby markedly increase opportunities for healing and restoring organ function. The company’s first product in development, CCG-TH30, is designed to target autologous bone-marrow-derived (adult) stem cells to the heart of patients after a heart attack.”

“In preclinical models, CCG-TH30 has been shown to increase the retention of stem cells up to as much as 77% in pre-clinical models as compared to conventional methods, which achieve only up to about 6%.”, Berninger states. “Importantly, CellCyte’s product candidate, along with stem cells, can both be delivered intravenously through a patient’s circulatory system without an invasive procedure.”

77% vs. 6% and intravenous delivery...Hmmmm...

As for TA, from where I'm sitting, it looks like there might be some resistance overhead around $ 6.60 and support around $ 6.00...FWIW, I think there's enough gas in the tank to take a poke at the resistance, then back off, regroup and push through with most likely another news release fueling another volume surge...

As for the low volume issue, take a look at TTEG...the low volume didn't seem to be an issue (.36 to 1.60 in a couple of months with AvgVol(90) = 60K)...FYI, it's currently basing and getting ready to go again :)

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not quite seeing the massive divergences, at least in terms of the way I understand divergence. I'm looking at daily and monthly charts, but focusing primarily on the monthlies...

This latest correction does appear to testing the long term bullish trend with meaningful support around 1370, IMO...FYI, for anyone interested in learning more about divergence, the following link proved to be helpful:

No offense intended, Danglin, as I said just askin'...Thanks for sharing the filters you were referring to :)

As for potentially collaborating, sounds good to me, not to sound like a broken record. Let me know how you'd like to proceed. In the meantime, I'll look at the filters you posted and look a little deeper into the technicals of the more promising candidates...

Sounds interesting...

I've always believed teamwork gets you much further down the road :) That said, I've currently got a subscription to VectorVest I could offer towards helping to potentially further refine "THE LIST" if it helps...

As for filters, I've been working for some time on a couple that show some promise, but I'd prefer to see solid real-world results before offering them for anything beyond personal consumption. On that note, you alluded to a couple you were currently using, could these possibly be two of them?
