Hey Muddy,

I tried to find the Yahoo group but couldn't. Would you mind sending me the URL and I'll see you over there. Thanks in advance,

Tom

Welcome to the board. Don't worry about being new, we're all there sometime. I am only 6 months into trading and have learned more than I thought there was to know. Read these forums and you'll pick up a lot of good approaches. Here is one that I am experimenting with. Try it and let me know what you think, and if you don't already know, use the "offset by..." to test the historical performance of your filters. Click the Performance button when you have past stocks selected and scroll through by Day to see how they did, keeping in mind that the softward checks the closing price, not any interday peaks, which may be plentiful.

Good luck, Tom

"Show stocks where MACD histogram(12,26) is below 0
and Average Volume(90) is above 100000
And close reached a new 2 week high
And volume reached a new 20 day high
and Volume is above 50000
and close is between .05 and 50
and offset is 1"

or:

"MACD fast line crossed above the MACD slow line
and Average Volume(90) is above 50000
and Volume is above 50000
and close is between .10 and 5"

Don't be too hard on yourself Noah. I watched SMTR, WEL, OWENQ (several times), AAC and worst of all VRA go up like crazy and I used exactly the same language as you just did. I could have made 132,000 bucks on VRA but I had no focus and no experience. We've all been there. Don't be too hard on yourself. Nice thing about the market is you get another try, just as long as you still have cash in hand.

Good luck and lets trade more filters and tips. ;)

Tom

I wish you guys would relax and stop slamming Holy Grail and his trading buddy. If you are not interested in reading their notes, move along. I have learned a lot from them and think it would be a loss to the rest of us if those guys stop contributing to the board.

Hey folks, don't forget to browse the news since DGEN filed bankruptcy over the weekend, CRPP as well. I lost a lot on ALGX tht way. If anyone needs a shortcut to cull all of this news email me. I have a paste-up in Yahoo that gives you all of the headlines for 800 stocks, taken from Stockfetcher.

Good Luck, Tom

General Discussion · Big Charts Histograms

Hey folks,

I've always seen a certain pattern in bigcharts MACD display where the histogram is below zero, and the red line (Fast MACD EMA9) crosses over the slow line MACD (12,26) like in MXR on 5/28/03:

http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/javachart/javachart.asp?symb=mxr

I use this filter:

MACD fast line crossed above the MACD slow line
and Average Volume(90) is above 50000
and Volume is above 50000
and close is between .01 and 5

Problem is that I would like to find these stocks a day or two before this point, when they are at the bottom of the histogram, since that is the best time to buy in. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance and good luck and good profit.
