Hello -

I am in the process of trying to create a pretty simple scan that looks for stocks that are strong on the daily, stabilizing or somewhat strong on the weekly, but oversold and attempting to turn around on the monthly. The idea being that this would create a good starting point to look for stocks that could create healthy returns over a long time horizon (i.e. turn-around stories).

I attempted to create this using a simple scan that only references price in relation to specific moving averages on all timeframes (daily, weekly, monthly).

Here is the syntax that I used:

Show stocks where price is above ma(200)
and ma(50) is above ma(100)
and price is above weekly ma(50)
and price is below weekly ma(200)
and price is above monthly ma(5)
and average volume(30) is greater than 500000
and price is above 2

What I am confused about is that some of the results are above the weekly ma(200), which negates the effectiveness of what I am trying to find.

Can anyone help explain why or create something similar that addresses all of the parameters noted above?

Thank you for your time,

jm

The limit on weekly ma's appears to be 100. Also, I don't think it is possible to calculate a monthly ma in SF.

Thanks for the reply spauken.

Are you aware of any scanning service that allows you to scan using monthly moving averages?

Not sure if this allows you to scan, but you can prepare monthly charts in it: www.freestockcharts.com
